Sun protection is never enough

by Alema Professional GmbH on Mar 09, 2023

As a salon owner, you have the power to not only provide your clients with beauty treatments, but also with the knowledge and tools to protect their skin from harmful UV rays. Sunburns can be painful and uncomfortable, and if left untreated, they can cause long-term damage to the skin. By emphasizing the importance of skin protection and offering high-quality sunscreen products, you can not only promote healthy skin, but also increase your salon's revenue.

Here is what you need to know about sunburns and skin protection.

Cause of Sunburns
One of the primary causes of sunburns is overexposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays can damage the skin cells and cause sunburns. Sunburns can range from mild to severe, depending on the amount of exposure and melanin in the skin. The more melanin a person has, the more resistant to sunburns they are.

How To Protect the Skin from the Sun

1. Always Wear Sunscreen
Always wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to protect the skin from sunburns. Sunscreen should be applied every two hours and after swimming or sweating. The most common type of sun protection is sunscreen. Sunscreen is a lotion, spray, or gel applied to the skin and absorbs (chemical filters) or reflects (mineral-based filters) UV rays. It comes in various SPF (sun protection factor) ratings, which indicate how much UV radiation is blocked. A higher SPF rating blocks more UV radiation, so choosing the right SPF for your clients' skin type is important.

2. Wear a Hat and Sunglasses
Having adequate protection against the sun's rays is important, so it's important to wear clothing, such as a hat and sunglasses, to block out most of the sun's ultraviolet rays.

3. Avoid the Sun During Peak Hours
It is best to avoid going outside when the sun is at its strongest, usually between 10 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. If you must go out during this time, make sure that you wear sunscreen and clothing that covers your skin to protect it from the sun's harmful rays.

4. Apply a Moisturiser
By keeping the skin moisturised, your clients will provide it with a barrier against the sun's harmful UV rays. Moisturisers can help protect the skin from drying out, cracking, and other skin conditions. Moisturisers with SPF can also help reduce the risk of skin cancer by providing a protective layer against the sun's rays.

The Bottom Line
In conclusion, sunburns and skin protection are important to consider outdoors, especially in the summer when the sun is most intense. Sunburns can be severe and cause painful blisters, peeling skin, and long-term skin damage. To prevent sunburns and potential skin cancer in the face or across the body it is important that you reccomend to your clients to follow the simple steps described above and suggest one or two products to bring at home with the reccomendation to be used everyday. And remember: no sun exposure for at least 48 hours if the client had a chemical face skin peeling treatment!
